Phillip Riley is Australia's longest running purely renewable energy recruitment company. We are currently looking for an experienced HSE Advisor to join one of our clients, an energy storage company who are assisting in the construction of a large battery project in Muswellbrook on a 24 month fixed term contract. 

Role Summary

Support line management to implement and improve safety processes and practices that meet 
organisational safety objectives. Provide accurate subject matter guidance on HSE challenges and work closely with the project team, client and contractors.

Report as required on project HSE performance and monitor and maintain project HSE files and data within the clients integrated document management systems (DMS).

This position will be site based and may require some travel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Implement, monitor, and maintain project HSE safe systems of work and project document and records.
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce project safety rules and protocols
  • Develop and implement project plans, procedures and processes aligned to project scope
  • Develop, implement, enforce, and monitor project induction program and training programs
  • Develop processes for verification of competency
  • Report HSE project performance
  • Lead, facilitate, monitor, analyze, review, and report serious work, health, safety, environment and quality incidents investigations. 
  • Develop & review causal and root cause factors
  • Monitor and report on status of corrective and preventative actions
  • Develop and implement project specific HSE plans, procedures and processes as required
  • Implement, conduct, and report on project assurance and governance requirements
  • Develop, implement and monitor HSE training programs 
  • Develop and maintain project risk and aspect and impact registers
  • Lead, develop, mentor, and coach, project resources as necessary.
  • Participate in performance review processes as required
  • Lead, conduct and participate in project leadership activities (safety walks, inspections,  engagement, and observations etc.).
  • Monitor and report on injured workers status and develop return to work plans as necessary


  • 5+ years in energy sector in Project HSE advisory roles 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and database management
  • Proficient investigative skillset with proven experience in using causation investigation models 
  • Good communication, 
  • Good report writing
  • Strong presentation and stakeholder management skillset
  • Good analytical skillset
  • Lead auditor (9001, 45001 / 4801, 14001 management systems) highly desirable
  • BESS / Battery Storage experience highly desirable
